Update - GasAlertMicroClip XL and X3 Order and Shipping Hold

Earlier this month we instituted an order-entry and shipping hold for GasAlertMicroClip XL and GasAlertMicroClip X3 gas detectors and replacement PCBs. The purpose of this message is to update you on the situation, following our investigation into a product quality issue affecting these products.

The hold was put in place due to isolated field reports we received about battery cells in the GasAlertMicroClip XL and GasAlertMicroClip X3 gas detectors overheating after the units had been dropped. None of these isolated incidents resulted in personal injury or property damage, but our customers’ safety and the requirement that they have confidence in our products are our top priorities, so we immediately investigated each report and undertook extensive testing in partnership with our battery supplier to learn more.

As a result of this extensive quality and drop testing, Honeywell confirms that GasAlertMicroClip XL and GasAlertMicroClip X3 continue to meet all certification standards and remain safe to use in the field under normal use.

Based on our testing, the chance of a battery overheating in one of these devices is extremely remote. However, we remind users to follow industry standard best practices relating to using portable, battery-operated products:

  • Before use, securely fasten the detector with the detector’s alligator clip or approved carrying accessory to avoid dropping the device.
  • Do not attempt to dis-assemble or replace the battery yourself..
  • Follow all of the charging protocols outlined in the operating instructions.

In addition, out of an abundance of caution, we ask that customers remove a GasAlertMicroClip XL or GasAlertMicroClip X3 detector from service if it has been dropped, damaged or otherwise compromised.

Addressing this issue and ensuring that our customers are satisfied remains our top priority. Our teams have made good progress in developing a plan to upgrade both field and new detectors. The order-entry and shipping hold will continue to be in place for both of these products until we can ensure newly manufactured products can ship with the upgrade applied.
