January 26, 2009 - LINCOLNSHIRE, IL – Honeywell (NYSE:HON) today introduced E3Point, a versatile, user-friendly gas detector that functions as a standalone unit or fully addressable network device for monitoring carbon monoxide and nitrogen dioxide in parking garages, and combustible gases found throughout a building.
Honeywell Analytics designed the E3Point to accept a broad range of Honeywell’s toxic and combustible gas sensors and to work with multiple communication protocols including BACnet, Modbus 4-20mA and LON. The E3Point offers flexible configuration options and reduced installation, operating and maintenance requirements and costs compared to other gas monitoring systems. Designed specifically for commercial buildings, E3Point increases the energy efficiency, performance and safety of new and retrofitted structures.
Key advantages of E3Point include:
Energy management – When unsafe levels of toxic or combustible gases are reached, the ventilation system can be activated via relays — at multiple levels and varying speeds depending on concentrations of toxic or combustible gas measured against the unit’s pre-set levels. E3Point contributes to green, sustainable building practices.
Economical value – The E3Point is easy to install, maintain and operate. Sensors are pre-calibrated at the factory and can be exchanged quickly and easily. The E3Point’s advanced, modular sensing and communications platform adds flexibility and utility to a gas monitoring system that drives down the costs of operating the gas monitoring system while increasing building performance. Sensors can be swapped as needed, and a remote sensor can be added to the main unit if desired, further reducing operating expenses.
Efficient operation – The E3Point serves analog and digital system requirements. It is available in two platform systems: a standalone device with single or dual-gas monitoring; or as a fully addressable, networked system that can be integrated with a building automation system. The E3Point uses self-testing diagnostics and an accurate, reliable electrochemical and catalytic bead sensor technology that reduces false alarms.
The standalone device can includes 4-20mA output, onboard buzzer, and up to two dedicated relays to activate additional horns, strobe or ventilation system. Rugged polycarbonate housing protects against dust/water ingress and an internal heating element enables sensor performance in temperatures to -40C. The main unit houses an electrochemical or catalytic bead sensor for toxic or combustible gas monitoring. An optional, second sensor can be connected to the host unit for dual sensor monitoring, ideal in parking garages, for example, which require carbon monoxide and nitrogen dioxide monitoring at varying mounting levels. In this arrangement, the remote sensor can be installed up to fifty feet from host unit and calibrated through the host unit. Gas concentration values, sensor data and other information for both local and remote sensors can be viewed on the main unit’s LCD display. E3Point offers wall- or duct-mounting kit.
With minimal set-up and configuration, E3Point can be deployed within a building automation system such as Modbus or BACnet. This arrangement increases the flexibility and performance of the gas monitoring system through multiple installation options. Gas detectors can be linked to various building systems such as a fire/security/HVAC network. In addition, the gas monitoring system can expanded to include a hybrid mix of wired and wireless gas monitors (example: Honeywell Analytics 301W) and controllers (example: Honeywell Analytics model 301CW). The hybrid installation is ideal for retrofit projects or those applications where a fully wireless sensor installation may not be optimal. Using the networked configuration, up to 96 fully addressable E3Point units can be linked, or daisy-chained, on a Honeywell controller (model 301C).
“For the first time, the building owner can look to one gas monitoring system to satisfy the broadest range of applications where the environment is mission-critical to building performance and life safety,” said Maureen Butler, marketing manager for Honeywell Analytics’ commercial line of gas detection solutions. “With its multiple sensing options and flexible communications, ease of installation and low maintenance requirements, E3Point offers numerous cost and performance advantages that will be attractive to engineering consultants and contractors as well as building owners and facility managers.”
The E3Point is ideal for parking structures, mechanical rooms, loading docks, transport terminals, baggage claim areas, golf courses, sewer channels, restaurants, kitchens and other interior building areas.
